Since I'm basing this comic off the games rather than the TV show, I guess that makes the trainer's name Red. Personally, I prefer the name Ash, but I guess the programmers wanted to work the whole color-naming scheme into the games.

In RBY/LG/FR, the boy you play is Red, the rival is Blue, and the girl in the advance is Green.

In GSC, the boy you play is Gold, the rival is Silver, and the girl in Crystal is... well... Crystal.

It wasn't until Ruby/Emerald that real names existed, though your rival in Pearl/Diamond has no name, s'far as I know.

OK, let's get the whole naming thing out of the way here.

In RSE, the boy was named brendan, girl was may and there wasn't really a rival apart from the opposite gender choice and wally.

When DPpt came along, The boy was Lucas, girl was Dawn and rival Barry.

In FRLG, the girl was named Leaf.

In HGSS, the boy was named Ethan and the girl Lyra.

And, of course, I forget the names for Black and White.
