I figure Tails is one of the people most familiar with the Chaos Emeralds, at least from a scientific standpoint anyway. The only Living person who might know more about them is Eggman, but he's not the type of person to share his knowledge with the rest of the world, assuming he's not gloating about it at the time, of course. Still, Tails is the kind of person who loves to furthur the cause of science, and if there's one thing be knows more about than anyone else, it's the Chaos Emeralds.

Only 8 years old and ALREADY wrote an entire thesis on super powerful mystical gems that could destroy the world if used improperly....

Always knew Tails was a nerd. Not that there's anything wrong with that. It might be a good thing he isn't a dedicated user of Chaos Emeralds, might even give Shadow a run for his money.

BSX: The last times Tails had his hands on a chaos emerald for more than a month He supped up his single propeller Bi-plane into a vehicle that could move at Mach 2... if He had a set of three for a year, he'd invent a form of teleportation that doesn't cost 70,000 dollars a pop.

Uhhh
I thought Shadow would've written the book, he is part-chaos, he knows more about them than anyone, who else can use Chaos Spear/Blast/Snap?

Just because he can use those abilities doesn't necessarily mean he knows how the Emeralds work.
Plus, can you imagine Shadow sitting at a computer and typing all day?
(btw, both Sonic and Silver can go Super and use Chaos Control. If they wanted, they could probably use Chaos Spear, Blast and Snap, too.)

... but in a friendly kind of way. :)
I wonder about Ciel's IQ. She was genetically enhanced and built a copy of X (who was previously unable to be analyzed) when she was 7 years old. She solved her world's energy crisis before she was 18 years old. Later in life, she developed Megamerge, a method for bonding the souls and DNA of the Legendary Heroes to human bodies.
If anyone can decipher the workings of the Sol Emeralds, Ciel is the smart choice.

Regarding nerds...
... IMO, everybody is a nerd about something. You have sports nerds, clothing nerds, science nerds, book nerds, film nerds, MMA nerds, computer nerds, gym nerds, and comic nerds; the only difference is that some nerds are more accepted in a particular culture than others. Its hypocrisy, if you ask me. If everyone would simply admit their nerd-dom, than the world would be a happier place. XD
